With a history going back to 1998, the INGEO conference series has become an important event on engineering surveying. Organized by the Department of Surveying of the Slovak University of Technology, in Bratislava, with close cooperation and support from FIG Commission 6, INGEO covers the main topics of this commission and its Working Groups.
INGEO2017, the 7th event in the series, is held in Lisbon, Portugal. To promote networking among Surveyors and Civil Engineers, the Portuguese National Laboratory for Civil Engineering (LNEC) has joined the organization of this 7th event, which is hosted at LNEC campus.

The Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC, National Laboratory for Civil Engineering) is a public institution of science and technology, covering the broad field of civil engineering.
LNEC was created in 1946 and resulted from merging the Laboratory for Testing and Study of Materials of the Ministry for Public Works and the Centre for Civil Engineering Studies based at the Technical University of Lisbon. This twofold aspect, covering research and experimental work, shaped decisively LNEC’s future development.
Today LNEC combines, in one institute, all fields of civil engineering, in particular the areas of public works, housing, urban planning, hydraulics, water resources, environmental protection and applied geodesy. LNEC is involved in improving building products and processes but also with quality assurance and safety of public works.
The main activities of LNEC are: Research and Innovation of a strategic nature, developed within research lines considered as priority due to their relevance at national and international level; Studies and consultancy, by providing advanced expert technical and advisory services, to public and private bodies, both national and foreign; Promote quality in construction through the preparation of specifications, standards and regulations, the approval and classification of new building materials and components, monitoring of works, certification of building projects under LNEC’s "Quality Mark" and testing.
LNEC has a distinguished record of achievements in the 70 years of its existence, and it continues efforts to improve its role in Society. LNEC is centrally located on a campus in Lisbon, covering an area of about 22 hectares, near Lisbon Airport (2 km). The campus includes a set of buildings of great architectural interest and gardens that hold some rare and exotic species of trees and plants. In December 2012, LNEC’s campus was classified as a Monument of Public Interest.
